What do you do when you know you’re going to indulge later in the day? You use it as an excuse to pig out the entire day, right? WRONG! That’s what I would normally do, but today was different. My favorite dessert (banana split cake) was sitting in my fridge and I knew I would want a piece this evening. So, I counted calories all day to make sure I stayed on track and then savored the dessert as soon as I got home from work. To help offset the extra calories, I followed it up by going for a 1.25 mile walk. My plan was to drink a protein shake for my actual dinner, but I was just never that hungry for the rest of the night, so my dessert became my dinner. Actually, my stomach started rumbling at about 9:30pm, but I just hit the sack early. I know that having dessert for dinner is not the healthy way to do it, but it did allow me to stay under my alloted calorie goal for the day. What a difference it makes to live in moderation. Let’s hope I can continue with this trend.
It was great to get outside for a walk. I haven’t exercised in 18 days due to prolonged sickness (aka “The Ick”). Though I probably could have gone farther, I didn’t want to overdo it on my first day out. Besides, I’m coaching GOTR tomorrow and I hope to get in some walking/jogging with the girls. Todays walk took me by one of our neighborhood ponds and there were some ducks and geese swimming around. I snapped this photo using the Instagram app on my iPhone. My neighborhood is mostly developed with houses, so I enjoy this little stretch where I can see some nature. I got a glimpse of a rabbit too, but couldn’t get my phone out in time to get a photo.
I’m getting anxious to start Brad Gansberg’s Run 5K in 100 Days program (see my last post), but I have to be patient for a bit longer. He sent out an email today saying that he is waiting on insurance and waivers before beginning the program. You can’t be too careful these days, so I don’t blame him.
